Larch Planed Square Edge | PSE
Larch PSE, available in both Siberian larch and homegrown larch is a popular type of cladding that we can offer here at Ruby. PSE, also known as planed square edge comes in many different sizes and lengths so be sure to find the right PSE timber with us. In terms of what type of larch species we can offer, Siberian larch is a durable timber with a high density, perfect for exterior applications such as sheds, garages, and homes. The colours range from brown tones to pale yellow and eventually turning to a silvery grey after long periods of exposure to the sun. Homegrown larch is a more cost-effective method to cladding your buildings and walls but does not compromise in quality. Its susceptible to more knots and small defects such as tight grains but that only adds to the charm and appearance making it one of our most popular timbers and cladding here at Ruby. A sustainable timber that is often fast grown in Devon and therefore considerably reduces our Carbon Footprint.
Planed Square Edge boards are very simple profiles with straight edges all around. They can be installed both vertically or horizontally depending on preference and simple to do so. All edges are planed and smooth ensuring the highest quality of finish keeping joints and finishes neat and tidy.
It is a well-known fact that the UV rays from the sun can cause both home grown and Siberian Larch to turn from its beautiful pink, brown and golden colours to a silvery grey finish. We would therefore highly recommend using Osmo Larch UV Protection Oil to keep the natural colours within the wood. The highly effective oil will optimally match the pigments of the timber, whilst also regulating moisture levels, minimising swelling, and shrinkage. It reduces algae, mildew and fungal with its water and rot resistant properties and creates a breathable clear finish that doesn’t crack, flake or peel. It is recommended that you apply Osmo stains every 12 weeks with two coats to help keep boards in immaculate condition. It’s important to consider the direction that your cladding is facing as this will help to determine the number of regular maintenance checks and coats of UV Protection oil needed.
