Machined in-house in the heart of Devon, our British Larch Shadow Gap Cladding, 145mm x 19mm, combines the character of English-grown timber with a contemporary architectural finish. The carefully machined shadow gap profile creates a defined recess between adjoining boards, producing clean lines and an attractive shadow effect. Designed for secret fixing, the profile conceals fixings for a neat appearance without visible screw heads across the board faces.

Install vertically or horizontally to suit your design. Vertical boards draw the eye upwards, while horizontal boards emphasise width. The smooth-planed surface showcases the timber’s grain, knots and warm colour variations, complementing brick, stone, render, glass and metal.

Naturally Durable

Our boards are cut from the central section of the log rather than outer side boards, favouring naturally durable heartwood over the less durable outer sapwood. Its natural resistance to decay makes it a great choice for exterior cladding without relying on pressure treatment.

With correct installation, effective ventilation and appropriate care, this heartwood can provide a long service life—offering lasting value alongside the appearance of natural timber.

Machined from Dried Timber

We machine our cladding from dried timber, allowing much of the initial shrinkage to occur before the boards are shaped to their finished profile. Compared with machining freshly sawn timber, this helps reduce subsequent shrinkage and supports more consistent dimensions and a better fit during installation.

Drying before machining also helps achieve a cleaner surface and accurately formed profiles, supporting neat joints and consistent shadow lines. Timber will still respond to changing moisture and temperature, so appropriate movement allowances remain essential.

Our timber is grown in England and machined at our Devon workshop, supporting domestic forestry and British manufacturing.

Keeping sourcing and production closer to home helps limit transport distances and associated carbon emissions compared with timber transported over long distances. It also gives us direct control over machining quality and the flexibility to accommodate bespoke requirements.

Choosing homegrown timber makes use of a renewable resource when forests are responsibly managed, while the wood continues to store carbon absorbed during the tree’s growth.

Left untreated, the timber gradually weathers towards a silver-grey patina. If you prefer to maintain its original warm tones, a suitable Osmo exterior UV protection oil can help slow greying while enhancing the natural grain.

Follow Osmo’s preparation, application and maintenance guidance for your chosen product, including any recommended weathering period before coating. Ongoing maintenance will be needed to retain the desired appearance.
