Different types of fencing ideas

So like many of us trying to choose the correct timber fence for your garden is a tricky decision to make, do you get a contractor in to install a perfectly fitted fence or is it something that you can do yourself, here is our step by step guide of garden timber fence ideas and how to find your perfect timber garden fence design.

Firstly, here's a little secret, you really don't have to be that hands on to create a beautiful border around your garden. To start you need to have an idea of what type of fence / fence panel it is that you require, for instance, are you looking for a;

  • Privacy fence panel
  • Decorative fence panel
  • Or maybe you just need a light border for the dogs, or even children!

Once you have established this, that is when things can start to get interesting. A privacy fence, for instance, can have multiple uses. A timber featheredge fence panel for example can also double up as a sound barrier (this design is frequently used next to roads and on neighbourhoods around the United Kingdom for that exact reason!). They are also a very cost effective way of fencing your garden. The reason why we love  feather edge fence panels so much is that they are an extremely easy way to put up a secure fence, they also offer privacy, sound reduction, wind protection and if done correctly can look great (just ask Britain's top house builders why they fence their gardens with these materials!).

If the privacy fence panel is a bit much then perhaps a decorative fence or panel would be a better suit? There are so many different variations out there but some of our favourites are;

The decorative timber fence panels offer a real aesthetic dimension to your garden and these are by far our most popular product range. Just like the privacy fences they have numerous additional uses, they can act as more of a boundary than a fence (have a look at our Heavy Duty Trellis Fence Panels if this is the case) or if you are looking for something that is really sturdy yet offers a real eye catchy design then the Omega Lattice Fence Panel is going to be the design for you. Both the Trellis Panel and the Omega Lattice Panel come in an array of sizes to suit your needs.

Are the above designs a little too much?

Perhaps you are looking for a light timber picket panel barrier fence for your dogs or children? Does the timber fence need to be moveable? Then you would be looking for something like one of our portable freestanding picket panelsThe great thing with portable picket panels is that they are great for providing visual barriers without having to install timber fence posts and using a heavier grade material (such as a feather edge fence panel etc..).

Freestanding Picket Panel

Our portable freestanding picket panels and our standard picket panels come in an array of different sizes ranging from 2FT (h) x 6FT (w), 3FT (h) x 6FT (w) and 4FT (h) x 6FT (w).

They are a great barrier for small dogs and/or children (ours our frequently used in Primary Schools). The main point with the portable freestanding picket panels is that they offer a clear boundary, are appealing to the eye and they can be moved around time and time again, you also have the option to make these a more permanent fixture by choosing the picket panel which can be installed with posts along your fence boundary.

Below is a handy little table of the pro's and con's of each fence:
