The Benefits Of Buying Pressure Treating Wood

The Benefits Of Buying Pressure Treating Wood

"What are the benefits of pressure treated wood?" is a very common question, so we have decided to write a blog informing you of the benefits of buying pressure treated wood.

If you have been browsing the shops or online for some timber, perhaps for a home DIY project, you may have come across the term ‘pressure treated’. If you have and you’re unsure what this means, it is actually a very important part of your buying process.

So firstly I'd like to explain the term pressure treated. Pressure treated timber has preservatives forced into the wood, rather than been applied by just a coating. The timber is placed under a vacuum and the pressure forces the chemical preservatives into the timber, of which provide a whole host of benefits for the consumer. All of our timber we sell has been through this process and we always advise our customers that this is the superior choice. Wondering why? Let’s take a closer look…

It is stronger

Pressure treated timber can withstand a lot more weight than untreated timber, making it the perfect choice for projects which have the need for robustness, such as timber decking or a timber garden gate. It is more difficult to damage, it is sturdy and will withstand more wear and tear, meaning that ultimately it will last a lot longer.

Longevity

As mentioned above, this type of timber will last a longer than an untreated counterpart. The preservatives which are forced into the wood help to prolong its life by protecting it against the elements. If you buy timber which has not been treated, you will no doubt be replacing it far sooner. The chemicals used when treating timber repel insects and prevent fungus which is something which contributes to rotting, which is something you wish to avoid at all cost.

Lower maintenance

Seeing as the timber is already treated, you won’t need to to add a layer of protectant after you’ve made a purchase, and before you wish to use it. The preservatives will provide long lasting protection against pests and water, making it resistant to rot, meaning it will need significantly less maintenance. You won’t need to start applying a weather-proofing top coat on a yearly basis (recommended as standard for any timber) until yours has had the time to weather, so you can simply install it and forget about it for a while, without the need to worry! This will save you time, effort and money in the long run because you won’t have to start your routine maintenance as soon.

Environmentally friendly

Although you may hear the word chemicals and think how could this be linked to being green, pressure treated wood is actually environmentally friendly! Due the life span being increased of the timber your buying, it means less trees are cut down, lessening the contribution to deforestation.
