Iroko Hardwood Gates

Our Iroko gates are expertly handcrafted here in the Devon countryside ensuring it’s a gate you can be proud of. Every detail has been taken care of from the stainless-steel nuts and bolts, to the shaping and sizing of the hanging stiles making sure it meets our quality control standards before being dispatched out to you. These gates are made from a hardwood called Iroko originating from the west coast of Africa. A beautiful material with a natural, yellow or golden colour and interlocked grains, it is one of the most durable and hard-wearing woods available creating the ultimate entrance driveway, field or side gate depending on your desire. These gates would become a great feature of any house adding that something special to your driveway whilst also bringing a sense of protection and restricted access to your home. They are great for field gates, because of the strong reliable structure that they possess and why not try them as a side gate acting as a visual barrier to the side and back of your garden and restricting access to the side of your property.

In terms of the gate features, they have been constructed using Mortise and Tenon joints to increase overall strength. A traditional technique that has proven to provide secure and vigorous structures. All our Iroko gates are made by hand also, to reduce machinery flaws and increase quality checks on the gate before being sent out. All our hardwood gates have been fully planed to ensure a quality, smooth finish making sure there are no sharp edges on the gates. Currently, we have two types of Iroko gates available which are the Hardwood Diamond Brace gates and the Hardwood Iroko Exbourne Curved Heel Gates. Both of which have sizes ranging from 3ft to 10ft and can be hung either on the left or right depending on your preference and location of instalment. Because of the features of Iroko, these gates have not been pressure treated as Iroko is rot resistant naturally and has hard wearing characteristics.

When it comes to installing your gate, we have highlighted some hangings, fixings and gate posts which you may wish to consider helping with the process. Our 24” adjustable hinge set is used to hang the gate onto the posts and we definitely recommend using the colour of Epoxy black with these gates as it gives a great contrast to the colour of the gate. The throwover loop set also includes a drop bolt to secure the gates to the ground, stopping any movement. If, however, it’s just the one gate that you have then a Self-Locking Latch is what’s needed and catches the gate once shut stopping it from opening on its own. In terms of the gate posts needed, we have Sawn Timber Posts available in sizes of 6”x 6”, 7”x 7” and 8”x 8”. Gates from 3ft to 6ft, we recommend using 6”x 6” posts, from 7ft to 10ft, we recommend 7”x 7” or 8”x 8” depending on your preference. We do also have Iroko gate posts, however these are not currently listed on our website so do please ring us to find out more about these and potentially purchase them. Finally, we have oak posts which are solid, look great and of course long lasting due to the nature of oak.
